Today, Saturday, March 8, President Masoud Pezeshkian attended the signing ceremony of contracts for the pressure-boosting project at the South Pars joint gas field. While appreciating the efforts of the Ministry of Oil, he apologized to producers and industrialists for the shortcomings in energy supply during the past winter. Referring to the existing challenges, he emphasized that despite the difficulties, the people of the country did not face gas shortages. This achievement was made possible through the extensive efforts of the government and the cooperation of the people. He also expressed gratitude for public participation in the “2 Degrees Less” campaign and added that greater involvement could have yielded even more positive results.
The Need to Reduce Energy Consumption and Existing Challenges
Continuing his speech, Pezeshkian highlighted the importance of energy consumption management and stated:
“We have experienced growth in the production of crude oil, diesel, and other energy products, but the problems we face today did not emerge overnight.”
He clarified that these challenges are the result of long-term trends in consumption, infrastructure, and energy policies. Overcoming them requires precise planning, the implementation of effective policies, and public cooperation.
Emphasizing the necessity of reducing energy consumption in the country, he added:
“We need a culture of energy efficiency. Reducing consumption not only helps conserve resources but also reduces pressure on infrastructure and ensures energy sustainability.”
Energy Management in Summer: A New Challenge
The President, while referring to the successful handling of the winter energy crisis, stressed the need to plan for summer energy supply and water resource management. He stated:
“Just as we managed to overcome a harsh winter with the cooperation of the Ministries of Oil, Energy, and Interior, we must also prepare for the summer and the related challenges of water and electricity supply.”
Pezeshkian suggested launching a campaign similar to “2 Degrees Less”, which was implemented in winter, to encourage water and electricity conservation during the hot season. He stressed that changing consumption patterns, adopting energy-efficient technologies, and public cooperation will play a crucial role in overcoming these challenges.
Developing Energy Infrastructure and Increasing Efficiency
In addition to consumption management, the President emphasized the importance of developing energy infrastructure. He stated:
“Reducing consumption alone is not enough to overcome energy crises; we need investments in modern technologies, improvements in power plant efficiency, and the expansion of energy transmission networks.”
He added that the government is working on signing new contracts to not only increase production but also enhance efficiency to ensure a sustainable energy supply for the future.
Pezeshkian also invited the private sector to invest in projects related to energy optimization and production. He noted that private sector participation can accelerate development and improve energy efficiency in the country.
National Cooperation to Overcome Energy Challenges
In concluding his speech, the President emphasized the necessity of national cooperation in managing energy consumption and tackling upcoming challenges. He stated:
“Success in this field is only possible through comprehensive cooperation between the government, the private sector, and the people. We must learn from past experiences and, with precise planning, improve energy efficiency.”
He once again expressed his appreciation for public participation in the energy-saving campaign and hoped that the culture of optimal consumption would become more deeply rooted in society. According to him, with proper resource management and collective collaboration, it is possible to overcome energy challenges and pave the way for sustainable development.
