The three-dimensional seismic data acquisition project for the “Haftkel – Naft Sefid” region, one of the largest seismic survey projects in the country, was successfully completed ten months ahead of schedule.
This project was carried out under the supervision of the Exploration Directorate of the National Iranian Oil Company, covering an area of 2,250 square kilometers in Khuzestan province, including the cities of Haftkel, Ramhormoz, Bavi, Shushtar, Masjed Soleiman, and Baghmalek. This vast region, equivalent to three times the size of Tehran, is remarkable in terms of operational complexity and scale.
The project set notable records, including drilling 7,531 shot holes in one month, acquiring seismic data using 10,001 shots within the same period, mapping 1,371 points in a single day, and drilling 444 shot holes in a single day. From a technical perspective, both vibratory and dynamite methods were employed to successfully achieve the contractual objectives at multiple seismic points.
Additionally, constructive engagement with local communities, including the Arab, Bakhtiari, and Qashqai Turk tribes, played a crucial role in executing the project seamlessly despite the challenging topography of mountainous, semi-mountainous, plain, and agricultural areas. This collaboration also contributed to direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region.
The three-dimensional seismic data acquisition project for “Haftkel – Naft Sefid” was conducted by Energy Dana Company. The obtained data significantly enhanced the accuracy of hydrocarbon reservoir identification, which will have a substantial impact on reservoir assessment, production enhancement, and national energy security planning for the National Iranian Oil Company in the future.
