Iran’s Oil Export Without the Need for the Strait of Hormuz: Goreh-Jask Pipeline Project

The CEO of Pars Oil and Gas Company announced that the capacity for daily oil export of one million barrels without the need to pass through the Strait of Hormuz has been achieved, thanks to the successful implementation of the Goreh-Jask crude oil pipeline project.

Speaking at the third PetroTech conference, Touraj Dehghani emphasized the rapid pace of scientific and technological advancements in the country and stressed the importance of effectively utilizing domestic capacities. He also highlighted the structural problems in the country’s economy, noting that despite existing infrastructure, Iran’s economy has not yet reached the desired growth.

Dehghani referred to the $2 billion Goreh-Jask pipeline project, stating that it has achieved a capacity of transferring one million barrels of crude oil per day. Despite challenges posed by sanctions and the inability to execute foreign contracts, the project moved forward through domestic collaboration. In early 2019, the country saw its first sour service casting, marking the beginning of a technological leap in Iran’s oil industry.

He explained that although the procurement of essential materials from foreign companies was hindered, the domestic workforce and collaboration with Isfahan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company helped complete the project. The Goreh-Jask pipeline is now recognized as one of the successful projects in Iran’s oil sector.

Dehghani further discussed the project’s 1,000-kilometer pipeline, including five 25 MW pump stations and loading facilities, and stated that such projects can significantly contribute to the country’s technological development and economic growth.

He also considered one of the major achievements of the project to be the establishment of daily oil export capacity of one million barrels without the need for passing through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he pointed out that adequate focus and promotion of this achievement has been lacking. He also mentioned the complex decision-making processes and lack of flexibility in policy-making as obstacles to economic development.

In conclusion, Dehghani emphasized that by leveraging domestic capabilities and supporting local production, many of the oil industry’s challenges could be addressed and existing capacities fully utilized.
